Unfortunately, the franchise has been mostly inert for about a decade, but now it looks to be returning in grand fashion. To be more precise, it may surprise fans to learn that one of the characters in FromSoftware's Elden Ring, the merchant Patches, actually originated in an Armored Core game.īefore there was Elden Ring, before there was Bloodborne, even before there was Dark Souls, FromSoftware established itself as an authority in the Mecha genre with Armored Core. As it happens, a common developer isn't the only thing the two games share, and it's very possible that the new Armored Core game will actually have a character from Elden Ring in it. We’ve concentrated on single-player for the story mode.FromSoftware recently revealed Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon at The Game Awards, and although fans of the franchise may have seen this coming, those less familiar with it may have been shocked to see a Mecha battling game from the developer of Elden Ring. ‘The main focus in Armored Core 6 – on the story mode at least – is having that story develop and play out. But we will reveal more details about this at a later date,’ explained Yamamura. ‘We do plan to have a versus mode, similar to previous Armored Core titles where you’ll be able to customise your mech and take that fully customised mech into battle with others. Instead, the development team is focused more on the single-player and story. Yamamura also confirmed that the game will feature multiplayer options but, unlike some previous entries, they’re not as much of a priority. … While there is an aspect of exploration in Armored Core 6, we wanted to put the focus on the breadth of variety and in assembly and customising your own mech and really feeling as if you’re piloting that mech that you’ve carefully put time into.’ ‘Obviously, the assembly aspect comes into that and it doesn’t quite apply to that fully open world exploration approach. ‘I think player mobility and player ability obviously plays a huge part in how we approach the design to these games, whether it’s Elden Ring or Dark Souls or Armored Core,’ Miyazaki continued. Furthermore, Armored Core 6 will also retain the series’ mission-based structure, since it’s the better fit for the mech customisation than an open world setting.
